Spidey Oliver's Birthday Bash

Ollie was so excited to have a spider-man/superhero party this year! I found these cute invites on etsy and was thrilled that they weren't "scary" spidey, but more of a "sweet" spidey. You know how I feel about characters and all things overly brutish/manly. Anyway, I showed Ollie the invites and thought he'd be thrilled, but he said:

"Why do I look like a monkey?"

So much for Sweet Spidey.

I went to his preschool class to take his birthday treat and listen to him tell his class about himself and the things he likes. As usual, "The Talker" did not disappoint, and he "talked aaalll about it."

Here are the cupcakes he took his friends at school. I used a cake mix and canned frosting and was so pleased with myself for simplifying when that's not usually my thing. But since I was pregnant and the whole theme of my pregnancy was "Good Enough", I felt great about it!

Now on to the party details...

Here are the favors: giant gumballs!

Water bottles to quench all the little super heroes thirst after their crime fighting and web slinging

And the best part...the cake! Katherine saved my life (well, Oliver's little heart actually) by recommending a new cake lady to me when mine cancelled on me last minute. I was so thrilled with the outcome and the taste was out of this world. Seriously the best cake any of us had EVER tasted.

When the kids got there we started out by decorating super hero capes I had made. I think they thought it was fun!

Two of Ollie's girly-friends, Maddie and Ava hard at work

Here's their handiwork!

Showing off their super hero skills....well some of them anyway. So the plan was to have them run around being super heroes, and then Spidey was going to show up and run around the yard with them doing all sorts of Spidey moves...

Out he came, and away the kids ran!

Notice there is not one child near him! I had my cute cousin Parker (a.k.a. Peter Parker) come over and dress up as Spidey. He is 6'5" and I think a little too much for everyone to handle. I finally had him take off his mask and show all the kids who it was, and they still weren't convinced. Oliver was the only one who would come near him for a long time. What the heck? Doesn't every kid want to meet a super hero? Apparently not! All the adults had a blast laughing our heads off though. Thanks so much "Peter" Parker! You were the perfect Spidey!

Look at Oliver. Could he be any happier? He was in his element. Oh, and by way...we think Ollie really thinks Parker is Spider-Man now. He asks him questions all the time like: "Peter Parker, what was it like to fight Vulture?" Hilarious! We spent a weekend in Bear Lake with the Rawlings clan and Oliver didn't leave Parker's side once. They are thick as thieves!

Huddie finally decided he wanted his picture by him but was too nervous to stand there without me. So funny!

Peter Parker's sister (and my cousin) Tenley and mom (and my aunt) Holly. They are such a blast to be around. They make every occasion feel like a party!

Chels and Gretel- we're so excited they got to be in town! This was the first b-day party they've been able to come to since they moved, so we were way excited!

Opening presents: Ollie said this was his favorite part of the whole party. Thank you to all of his friends and family for making his day and getting him every Spider-Man toy that was ever created!

And finally...time to make a wish

and blow out the candles!!!

Happy 4th sweet boy! We love you!

Oliver at 4 years old:

*Wakes up every morning very happy and energetic. He is our one and only morning person in the family. He always says: "It's wake up time!" The first thing he wants is a bowl of "ciz". He's a true Buchi when it comes to his ciz.

*He loves to play with anything and everything and keeps himself very entertained. He mostly loves talking while he plays. He gives a play-by-play of every single thing he does while he plays, and wants me to watch every little thing he does with his guys, or trains, or cars, or whatever it is he's playing with.

*He's very good at getting ready for the day. We never have any complaining when it's time to get ready. In fact, it's just the opposite. He's very positive and enthusiastic. I'll hand him his underwear and he'll say things like: "Oh! these ones are my favorite! I love silver {gray} unders! Or "this is my favorite shirt...how did you know?" Even if he has never seen the shirt before. I love it!

* When it's lunch time I'll ask him what he wants and he'll say: "Surprise me!" He'll eat quite a few more things than Hudson, but the only downside is I have to feed him most of the time. He loves to be fed on the couch the best, but when I refuse to do that, he'll make do with playing and then running to the table to be fed a bite here and there. As long as he's eating the variety he is I'm willing to play his games for now.

*He tells me all day long how much he likes me. Not loves, but likes. He'll run all the way upstairs and come find me just to tell me he likes me. Then he'll run back downstairs. It's probably my favorite thing he does.

*When he gets tired he says. "Mommy I need you!" And then goes back to doing what he was doing.

*He is very good about putting his dirty laundry and shoes away, but when it comes to picking up his toys or helping me with chores he always has some sort of "body ache" or ailment. Sometimes he has to go to time out until his hand/hip/back/ankle/pinky stop "hurting." It's kind of funny and annoying all at once. We're working on it.

*He kind of likes to fib. We're working on that one too.

*He's always full of excuses. See above statement.

*He likes to tell jokes. We don't know where he learned how to tell a joke, but it is hilarious! They never make sense, but we laugh so hard anyway. "Why did the cat need to go to the bathroom? Be-caauuse, he needed to sit on the toilet! Hahahahaheeheehee!!!!"

*He doesn't like to go to sleep. He will be watching a movie and start getting drowsy and will hold his eyes open with his hands so they don't close. Or get up and start doing couch acrobatics so he doesn't get too relaxed. At bedtime he always needs "a bowl of ciz" or some "water with ice" or another story or to snuggle someone before he can finally go to sleep.

Oliver, we love you so much! "Four Guys" are the best!
