All You Need Is Like

For whatever reason, Ollie had a hard time with the L-word. I'm slightly mystified, since we have no problem expressing our love for each other here at home. We tell each other all the time. All of us that is except Oliver. For some reason he just can't seem to let the word slip past his lips. Here are a few of my favorite conversations between us:

1. Ollie: Mom, I like you.
Me: Oh, thanks buddy! I love you too.
Ollie: No, you can't say love...I just said like.
Me: What??

2. Ollie: Mom, I like you so much.

One morning snuggling in my bed together:

3. Ollie: Mom...I kinda love you.

We're making progress!

I don't like this kid, I love him to death!

Hip, Hop, Hooray!

Hip, Hop, Hooray....
Easter was actually kind of a blah day!
Am I terrible to admit that?

It was kind of anticlimactic with it being General Conference. Not that I have anything against it, it's just that it kind of interfered with getting to get all gussied up in our Easter finery for church. And not that that's what Easter is all about, either. But it's a fun part of it, right?
And last year my whole family was sick and didn't go to church,
so I kind of feel a little gypped for the past 2 years.
Not to mention the blah weather. Is anybody else tired of it? Gray. Cloudy. Windy.

Blah.

This is what our backyard looked like Easter morning.

Snow? On Easter? In April??

Every single year I say "This year I'm going to do an Easter egg hunt." I've actually never participated in one and everyone says how fun they are, so I don't want our kids to miss out like I did! I finally bought the plastic eggs and candy thinking, "I'm so organized...I'm really going to do it!" I even filled the eggs the night before so everything would be ready for Sunday afternoon.
Then I totally spaced it!!! I am the lamest.

Double blah.

And one more thing I've failed at? Our kids are 2 and 4 and have never dyed eggs. That has been our choice up until this year only because of the fear of of 2 rowdy boys+multiple cups of dye (not to mention Oliver's super sensitive nose and Hudson's gag reflex when it comes to the vinegar smell.)= I just know there would undoubtedly be a scene. And not a pretty one.
But this year, I swore I would do it. I knew they could handle. I knew I could handle the mess. I bought the dye. I bought fresh vinegar. And then I worked all day Saturday and got home after celebrating Buz' birthday (happy birthday, Buzie!) too late to do it. So once again, the eggs did not get dyed. And I feel terrible.

Triple Blah.

But there were some fun parts, so here we go. Watching the boys hunt for their baskets was so much fun. Hudson found his in the dryer.

He was so excited with all the treasures he found!!

Hud is all about the toys and games, so he was thrilled at finding so many new things
in his basket.

Oliver was a little sad and disappointed when he couldn't find his. I think he thought the Easter Bunny forgot about him. We started looking in his room, but Hudson ended up finding it first. Hudda was so cute and grown-up about it though. He didn't even let on that he had seen anything. He just told Ollie to check behind the rocking chair, and let Ollie have all the excitement for himself. What a good big brother!
Ollie always digs into his candy right off the bat. He doesn't mess around with the books or toys.

After doing Hud's new puzzle together and playing a round of "Go Fish" from Ollie's basket, we got ready to go have brunch over at my mom and dad's during the break of Conference. Everything was so yummy!

Here's a shot of the boys doing what they do best. Wrestling. In their Easter best. I figured they could at least get a new casual outfit since they really didn't need any new church clothes.

So here they are breaking them in.

After the second session of Conference, we headed over to our monthly family party with the Slaugh fam. We had a really yummy dinner. We made some"nest" cupcakes that were delish. This picture is from last year, but they looked exactly the same.

Even though it was kind of blah, any reason to celebrate is always great!

Oh, one thing I wanted to write down is how Hudson loved telling me in the sweetest voice: "Mom, happy Balentime's Day, Mommy."

(the best part is, he also holds his hand out as if he is presenting something while he says it)

When Valentine's Day was over, he wanted to know what the next holiday was. When I told him it was Easter, he said in the most serious, sweet voice:

"Mom, happy Easter bunny time, Mommy."

(again, with the hand and everything).

I heard this almost every day until Easter. It's not the same writing it as hearing it, but I hope I never forget!!
