What a BLAST!

Here are some pics of our 4th and 24th fun!

I whipped up some yummy vanilla-almond patriotic cupcakes

And the kidlets were more than happy to sample!

We had a fun-filled day of swimming and scooter rides up in Midway, and then a yummy bbq and s'mores around the campfire that night. Such fun memories!

Enjoying the fireworks ***Happy Birthday America!***

And now for the 24th: Here's how it all went down: The 24th also happens to be my little brother's birthday. We always start the day out right with a yummy breakfast either at Ruth's Diner or Midvale Mining Company. This year we decided on Midvale Mining Co. YUM! After that we went over to my parentals for some gift opening by Teato. His gift from us? A yummy Zack Efron-esc turquoise plaid cowboy shirt...he'll be such a hottie in it! After that we headed home to let the kids nap before our night of excitement. We thought it would be fun to take the kids to a Bees game (they love the train and the playground...I don't think they even notice there is a baseball game going on) especially since there would be fireworks at the end of the night. Here's where our plans go awry:

We got to the game to buy our tickets, and lo and behold...the game had been postponed! Weird! However, the sign said they would still be hosting a Pioneer Day Celebration. Sounded o.k. to us...After all, the kids don't watch the game anyway! So we bought our tickets and made our way through the CROWD. We got all ready to stand in line for the train, and then...NO TRAIN. What is going on here?? Okay, so there is no train tonight. We can deal with that. We broke the news to the boys, and then told them we would just head to the playground. They were sad, but were still excited. On to the playground... which was taped off. WHAT? NO PLAYGROUND EITHER?? Seriously!! What is going on? Turns out the playground was where they were shooting the fireworks from. Okay so here's the rundown.

1. No game

2. No train

3. No playground

What in the world were we still doing there?? And what was everyone else still doing there? We explained the sitch to the kids, and promised we would get them a treat and then go find a new playground. They were surprisingly understanding! We got them some snowies and then headed back to the car (nice waste of $ to park) to find somewhere else to go.

What a bust!!

We headed to one of my fave places for some car-hop service
and then off to the park for a picnic and some serious playing

When it got too dark we went home to play with some sparklers before the fireworks started. Ollie was terrified!
Hudda jumped right in (what a shock!)
The next day we went up to the lake and took the boys boating. Hud thought it was a riot, and Olf was not so sure. So not sure in fact, that I think it made is tummy upset and he threw up buckets when we got back to the party house. Poor little toad!

Happy Pioneer Day, celebrated in a very non-pioneer way!
