My Newest Niecey

I got to Sac and couldn't wait to feast my eyes on my new little niece Gretel Emeline. Chels had her on October 12th. And for any of you moms out there who wouldn't dream of going through childbirth without an epidural, my brave little sister did!!!! She wasn't sure if she was "in actual labor", and arrived at the hospital at an "8", and from there, gave birth less than two hours after that! Criminy...that will never be me, but that's ok. I prefer to flip through magazines serenely and reapply my gloss routinely throughout the process. So Gretel weighed 6 lb. 10 oz., and was 18" long. Tiny little thing! I had so much fun snuggling with her and kissing her to death. I miss her already!
Of course I couldn't let my talent go to waste down there! I dragged my hair stuff there and colored and cut my mom's and Chels' hair, and even put a bow in Gretel's sweet little 9 day old hair!
Chels, me, Gretel and Mom

Okay so this picture is so fun and making my taste buds tingle just looking at it. Back in March when we were in Sac Town visiting for Spring Break, my sweet hubby brought me a deliciously soft, buttery, salty pretzel for my enjoyment so I wouldn't have to break stride in my marathon shopping. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I couldn't stop thinking about it days, weeks, and even months after. Chels even tried to mail me one as a surprise, and the lady at the post office wouldn't let her. What a kill joy! So for Gretel's first official outing, we drove about 25 minutes to the nearest Wetzel's Pretzels location in Roseville at the mall. There were so many flavors to choose from...I had to get the original since that's what I had been salivating about for so long, though Mom got a Jalepeno Cheese one and thought it was divine. Oh, sweet mannah from heaven!

Alone and Lonely

Last Thursday my three men took a trip down to St. George without me!! Aaaah! What was I going to do without them? I couldn't go because of work and church commitments (thanks a lot, Chrissy:) ), and I was leaving to go to Sacramento to visit Chels on Sunday. My flight left on Sunday afternoon before they were going to be home, and I wasn't going to return home until Thursday evening. So that meant I wasn't going to be able to see them for one whole week! I didn't know what I was going to do with all that free time. And boy, did time drag. Did I mention I had absolutely no family in town whatsoever? Steve's entire family was in St. George with him, and my family was all in Sacramento visiting Chelsea and Johnny. Do you know how alone and lonely I felt? It was a horrible feeling! However, I got quite a few things done out of necessity and for pleasure, which was a nice change from the norm.
I started out making a run to all the beauty supplies that I never get around to (and make Steve go for me on his way home from work). Then I actually went to the mall and went shopping. Shopping to me doesn't have to mean buying---it was just nice to look around and see what was new in the fashion world. After that, I went to a Primary meeting, and then to get my hair done (always a treat). I finished getting my hair done about 10:45 that night (I have a lot of hair), and decided to rent a movie. Steve would not have loved me out and about at that hour, but hey I was footloose and fancy free. I rented Dan In Real Life which I had already seen but loved, and Penelope. (It was a darling movie with quite a romantic kiss at the end for any of you who love romantic scenes)! I only watched one movie, before going to bed in my lonely little house alone.
The next morning I woke up and went to look for fabric for furniture for my basement. I found ones I fell deeply in love with, but Steve told me I was crazy to think I would be getting a couch anytime soon. We'll see about that. I have him wrapped pretty tightly around my little finger. He has a hard time saying no to little old me! Plus, is it normal not to have a couch? I think not.
After that I went to lunch with my friend downtown, and then decided to do a little more shopping. Only this time, I really bought something. I fab little slouchy bag that was going to look great slung over my shoulder as I boarded the plane. Who doesn't need a great carry-on? Anthro, I love you, though my hubby does not!
After my fun day out, I decided I'd better get down to business. I went to the grocery store to stock up on the staples for when my fam returned, and then began to pack. After that was finished, I watched my other movie.
The next day I went to work, and had a fun time as usual visiting with all the girls at work and my clients while getting some hair did. After work, I went to dinner with my friend Jenn at Mimi's where she proceeded to get her dinner for .30 cents! She had a $10 off coupon, and that's what her dinner ended up costing. Pretty nice, huh!
The next morning I went to church ( I actually got there on time without having to wrestle the kids into their clothes and into the car) and fulfilled my obligations there. We're having our program next week--which I wrote--so I was pretty anxious to see how it was all going to turn out. After that, I was on my way to Sac Town... still, all ALONE! Yikes. Has anyone ever flown alone? I was terrified, but ended up doing great. I'm so proud of myself!
Oh, P.S. While everyone was going to be gone, I fantasized about having a perfectly clean house all weekend. My bed was going to be made every day, not a speck of food on the floor was going to be found, and I wasn't going to trip on one toy. News flash: I missed the noise and the chaos of everyone around so much, I actually left each and every mess they made before they left until the very last minute before I left--hence the next few pictures:
