Hudson Goes to the Hospital

Hudson had his tonsils and adenoids out along with his ears drained over a month ago, and it was quite the nasty recovery. Shortly after his recovery was complete, we went out of town (post coming soon!) so I am now just getting to journaling the event.
Here's how it went down...
Hud's surgery was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. He couldn't eat solids past midnight the night before (which, what 3 year old would be staying up until midnight?...so he actually went more hours without food), and could only have clear liquids until 11:30 a.m. Poor little toad! We decided to take him to the toy store first thing in the morning to distract him from being hungry. It worked like a charm! He got to pick out a special new toy to take to the hospital for being so brave. He picked out a Wall-e robot, and it turned out to be the perfect distraction!
Here he is with his first nurse checking his blood pressure:
Our little guy in his operation gear. So cute, but so sad!
One of his nurses was so sweet with him, and let him him check out Wall-e's vitals after she checked Huddie's.
This picture is so funny to me because he is putting his socks on by himself. Why would that be funny? If you know Hudda, you know that he fights with all his might on a daily basis to avoid getting dressed at all costs. He runs, hides, kicks, rolls around, you name it. He refuses to dress himself...so the daily battle continues.
His nurse handed him a pair of socks and asked if he knew what to do with them. He calmly sat down on the floor and pulled them on one foot at at time, like he does it every day. I was aghast!! What a little con artist!!
Here is his doctor that performed his surgery. He's telling Hudson what's going to happen.

Here is is O.R. nurse introducing herself and telling him he'll see her first when he wakes up.
And finally this is his anesthesiologist talking to him about the root beer flavored mask he gets to smell, and how he's going to fall asleep. I love Primary Children's. They are so great!

Hud got to choose what he was going to ride to the O.R. in. He couldn't decide, so he tried them all out first.

In the end he decided on the wagon, and off he went to the O.R.
I have to admit, I got a little teary. I was so nervous!!
When he woke up a nurse rushed me down to where he was. I could hear screaming, and I thought "I hope that's not Hudda." I rounded the corner and sure enough, it was. He had 3 nurses trying to hold him down, and he was trying to jump off the bed and pull his IV out at the same time. As soon as he saw me he jumped into my arms and collapsed in a heap in my arms.

When he came to after about an hour, he was in pain and refusing everything. He kept holding his breath and refused to swallow his own saliva. The nurses said if he kept doing either of those things he would have to spend the night. The next 3 hours were spent trying everything in our power to get him to stay calm and swallow Popsicles. Wall-e turned out to be the golden ticket!! All we would have to do was say we were going to take Wall-e away, and he would have another swallow. Yaaaay!!A few ounces of liquid plus some lortab, and things were looking better!
He told the nurse he wanted his IV out of his foot. She told him if he could talk well enough to say that, then he could go home for sure! Yippee!!!
Here he is, ready to go...and ready or not for the next 10 days of healing H-e-(double toothpick!)And boy, was it! We are so glad you're better Huddie Bear!
We're happy to report he's eating a little better, sleeping a little better, and talking tons better.
Most of all, we hope he feels better!
